A LITTLE ABOUT ME...

I am a Social Worker, Advocate, and Therapist.

I received my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I attended the Joint Master of Social Work Program, which is a collaboration between NC A&T State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I graduated with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in 2005. This was an advanced generalist program that is accredited by the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE).

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina (License #C005920), Virginia (License # 0904015372), and Florida (License # SW23403).   I am also registered in the state of South Carolina to provide therapy services via telehealth (Registration # TLS 651 CP; https://llr.sc.gov/TeleHealth/SocialWork.html).

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for a little over 18 years. I am also a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate (LCAS-A/License #LCAS-16531), which allows me to provide substance use treatment services under the supervision of a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS).

I am not a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who prescribes medication to treat mental health and substance use disorders.

I am also not a psychologist.  A psychologist can provide psychological testing.

I began my therapy journey working in community mental health. I have worked with all client populations. My other clinical experience include Hospice & Palliative Care Social Worker and a Behavioral Health Social Worker in an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital Unit.

In 2018, I completed a rigorous year-long training program with the Telebehavioral Health Institute and received certification as a Board Certified Telehealth Professional Level II.

I have completed extensive training in all the areas in which I provide services. My training has included:

  • Completion of the Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training. This is an intense, accredited training program that prepares clinicians to become certified Tobacco Treatment Specialists. For more information about this program click here.  I also completed the Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program's Mindfulness Training for Smokers Facilitator Training.
  • Advanced Training in completion of Psychological or Immigration Evaluations through the Immigration Evaluation Training Center as well as the Physicians for Human Rights’ Asylum Clinic Training.
  • Extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused techniques in the treatment of mood/depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorders, as well as serving refugee and immigrant survivors of torture and trauma.
  • Board Certified Telehealth Practitioner Level II (BCTP-II). https://training.telehealth.org/mod/customcert/verify_certificate.php
  • During my work experience, I have worked with diverse cultural populations as well as conducted numerous comprehensive clinical evaluations.
